How can we help primary caregivers manage their (suspected) senior relative's dementia?
User interviews, contextual inquiry, competitive and comparative analysis, affinity mapping, user personas and storyboards, user journey map, feature prioritisation, prototyping, and usability testing.
We initially hypothesised that wandering would be a problem to solve for dementia patients. After interviews with primary caregivers and the manager of a dementia daycare centre, we identified the real problem: caregivers did not know how to care for their elderly relatives demonstrating early to mid-stages of dementia.
We identified two personas to design for: the busy caregiver reliant on her mobile for information access; and the suspected dementia patient with a preference for low-tech and physical tools.
The Caremate app provides necessary information for caregivers to manage their elderly relative's early to mid-stages of dementia.
The accompanying home care kit includes instructions for games and other activities in the home care kit to mentally stimulate the elderly relative.
